Bittersweet Today. I don't even know where to start. This is probably going to be short and moderately incoherent, but I have some crazy that I need to get out. This is, after all, my blog. I've been doing some social media work at an ad agency recently. My sense of self worth has bounced back to a level equal...

My Social Media Life I had a lot of footage from my Flip UltraHD lying around and it seemed a shame not to use it. The audio track is "Clocks & Timepieces" by the Detroit band Search The City. Some of the video is from Jolie O'Dell's visit to Toledo, the Mashable #Hyatt4Good Tweetup Tour stop in Chicago, #Tattooleetup,...

Unemployed: Day One As many of you already know, my employer terminated my employment last Thursday. Since I was apparently officially employed until the end of the business week, I'm considering today "Day One" of my bout with unemployment. But make no mistake, I am not a statistic. I am not a victim. I'm a husband, a...

Somebody Digg This Seriously. People go apeshit for this kind of stuff. The screenshot below is not altered in any way. Mark Pannell is truly friends with Mark Pannell now. Weird, right? I found this to be moderately amusing. Enough such that I felt that other people might also find it amusing. But to really get the...

In Defense of Hard Consonants I wish my name started with a hard consonant. You know the ones I'm talking about: B, D, G, T, V, and Z. They're a built-in nickname. The other day, I saw a friend that I've known for fifteen years. His name is Damian. I said, "What's up, D?" That's never been an officially-sanctioned nickname for...

What a difference a day makes. Work life has had me pretty stressed out for about six weeks now. So, when I started my vacation on Monday, I was ready for a little R&R. But this past week just flew by. That always happens when I don’t leave town for my vacations. In fact, the only out-of-town plans I had for the week were to visit Matt in Columbus. At about 1:00 pm yesterday, I hit the road for the capitol city.

The original plan was to scout out possible neighborhoods for me and the fam. But as is usually the case with Matt and me, alcohol superseded logic. We started off the evening at Don Pablo’s. After a fantastic meal (their cornmeal whatever-the-fuck is unnaturally good) and a couple of Dos Equis in my belly and Bud Light in Matt’s, we were off to The Anderson’s to snag some beer for the homestead. I was helped by an extremely knowledgeable older gentleman who pointed me in the direction of Goose Island Nut Brown Ale. As a big fan of Newcastle, Brooklyn Brown Ale, and Sam Smith’s Brown Ale, I accepted his advice and bought that shit with a quickness. Matt went the route of Landshark Lager, a wise choice as well. All twelve bottles wound up on my credit card as Don Pablo’s landed firmly on Matt’s. Fair trade.

Next on the agenda was the Dub Pub, an establishment well-known for the extremely attractive staff. Matt wasn’t lying. These ladies were incredibly beautiful. But after admiring their beauty for a few minutes, we realized that we were still paying four bucks for domestics while we had some good shit sitting in the backseat of Matt’s hoopty. So we headed back to his place to get ‘em on ice. While we waited, we shot over to The Barn for one more overpriced Miller Lite. Satisfied with our cooling time, we headed back to Matt’s place and started in on the Landshark. We’d both gotten right in the vicinity of catching a nice buzz, so when Matt started playing his newly-purchased Boom Blox for the Nintendo Wii, it fascinated us more than it should have. Don’t get me wrong; the game is incredible. But I couldn’t stay seated throughout the experience. I was jumping up and down like a 45-year-old armchair quarterback from New Jersey with a beer/sweat stain hybrid on his wife beater. We started sucking down those Landsharks like somebody was gonna kick down the door and take them from us.

It didn’t take long to run out of Landshark, so the Goose Island got the treatment next. Once suitably drunk, we decided that recording Episode One of Digital Darwinism would be a good plan. Had it not been for some technical difficulties, it actually would have been a good plan. The approximately sixty minutes of audio that we captured were pretty entertaining and, surprisingly, coherent. Unfortunately, we were plagued by poor audio quality… again. So, to make a long story short, the launch of Digital Darwinism has been delayed again. We’re still hoping to get this mofo off the ground in calendar year ‘08. But it just might take divine intervention for that to happen.

So, to wrap up this aimless rant, the one day out of town was such an amazing stress relief that it made the whole week worth it. Matt is, by far, the best friend I’ve ever had in my life. I haven’t seen him in two months, but it makes no difference. We’re always able to slide right back into our old selves. Alcohol generally helps the slide a bit. Hell, it damn near turned it into a water park last night. That Goose Island Nut Brown got right on top of me! What a difference a day makes.
