Bittersweet Today. I don't even know where to start. This is probably going to be short and moderately incoherent, but I have some crazy that I need to get out. This is, after all, my blog. I've been doing some social media work at an ad agency recently. My sense of self worth has bounced back to a level equal...

My Social Media Life I had a lot of footage from my Flip UltraHD lying around and it seemed a shame not to use it. The audio track is "Clocks & Timepieces" by the Detroit band Search The City. Some of the video is from Jolie O'Dell's visit to Toledo, the Mashable #Hyatt4Good Tweetup Tour stop in Chicago, #Tattooleetup,...

Unemployed: Day One As many of you already know, my employer terminated my employment last Thursday. Since I was apparently officially employed until the end of the business week, I'm considering today "Day One" of my bout with unemployment. But make no mistake, I am not a statistic. I am not a victim. I'm a husband, a...

Somebody Digg This Seriously. People go apeshit for this kind of stuff. The screenshot below is not altered in any way. Mark Pannell is truly friends with Mark Pannell now. Weird, right? I found this to be moderately amusing. Enough such that I felt that other people might also find it amusing. But to really get the...

In Defense of Hard Consonants I wish my name started with a hard consonant. You know the ones I'm talking about: B, D, G, T, V, and Z. They're a built-in nickname. The other day, I saw a friend that I've known for fifteen years. His name is Damian. I said, "What's up, D?" That's never been an officially-sanctioned nickname for...

I had a lot of footage from my Flip UltraHD lying around and it seemed a shame not to use it. The audio track is “Clocks & Timepieces” by the Detroit band Search The City. Some of the video is from Jolie O’Dell’s visit to Toledo, the Mashable #Hyatt4Good Tweetup Tour stop in Chicago, #Tattooleetup, and the July #Toleetup. And yes, the title and logo are a play on My So-Called Life. Who’s old enough to remember that show? Read the rest of this entry »

GPCH_biggerI’ve chosen Gene’s Cowboy Hat for the first subject of my unofficial Spotlight On… series. The Gene in question is, of course, Gene Powell at Spoke. These features can usually be found on our TOLeeps blog, but I felt that this was more personal and that it was appropriate to share this story of heartbreak and betrayal here instead. As many of you know, Gene Powell is a social media catalyst in the Toledo community. Most of Gene’s friends, colleagues, clients, and acquaintances would agree that he’s a personable, energetic, dynamic individual. He improves the lives of everyone he touches. Everyone… except one. And that’s where our story begins. Read the rest of this entry »

This morning, I finally got to attend a Social Media Breakfast Toledo (#SMBTOL). I got so see some familiar faces and finally had the opportunity to move beyond the Twitter avatars with others. This isn’t intended to be a comprehensive  list of attendees. Rather, these are the TOLeeps that I’ve connected with on a personal level, all of whom share valuable content on Twitter. I’d like to thank Jolie O’Dell for capturing this moment. I almost forgot it happened. I don’t think I’d ever told that story before that night. It might not seem like much, but the story means a lot to me. By the way, that’s Josh Kulpa and Dingman who occasionally poke their heads into the video. Had a great time with those two that night. Jazz clubs that close by midnight, liquor stores that accept WIC, and a beautiful woman with the power to seduce you to Central America. Good times.
